Chapter Programs

Alpha Nu Omega has provided extraordinary service to the cities of Oakland and Berkeley of the Bay Area since 1929!  Since our chartering, ANO has remained relevant and responsive to the changing patterns in society and is dedicated to serving our community through youth programs, college scholarships, as well as health, economic, and social justice initiatives…and of course having fun while doing the work!
Alpha Nu Omega has welcomed Alpha Kappa Alpha’s latest 2014-2018 International Program, Launching New Dimensions of Service, under the leadership of our International President Dorothy Buchanan Wilson, and has implemented the following:

LAUNCHING NEW DIMENSIONS OF SERVICE

TARGET I – EDUCATIONAL ENRICHMENT

A.S.C.E.N.D. | ASCEND is Alpha Kappa Alpha’s 2014-2018 International Signature Youth Enrichment Program that Alpha Nu Omega has implemented.  The program is designed to motivate, engage and assist high school students to reach their maximum potential.  If you are a High School Student interested in developing leadership skills, international partnerships + Civic Engagement, learn more about our A.S.C.E.N.D. program.

ONE MILLION BACKPACKS |
 Alpha Nu Omega, so far, has donated and distributed backpacks and school supplies to students in the cities of Oakland and Los Angeles as well as to an all girls high school in Uganda.
Think HBCU℠ | In Support of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Alpha Nu Omega will continue to support HBCUs and their contribution to the sorority and society.  Alpha Nu Omega chapter supports and volunteers at the Oakland Black College Expo, UNCF Masked Ball in San Francisco, the UNCF Walkathon held in Oakland as well as many other HBCU-related efforts.

TARGET II – HEALTH PROMOTION

Alpha Nu Omega will continue to support the promotion of health awareness in three main areas: (1) Alzheimer’s Disease and Caregiver Support Program; (2) Stroke and Heart Disease Awareness by continuing our long standing partnership with the American Heart Association Bay Area programs and events and Pink Goes Red Community Impact Day, and Mental Health; and (3) We also support Breast Cancer awareness by participating in the Faith Fancher Walk.

TARGET III – FAMILY STRENGTHENING

Alpha Nu Omega will continue to address issues facing many families, including lack of food, shelter and financial means in several areas: (1) Childhood Hunger Initiatives via local agencies, food banks and community pantries; (2) Family Seasonal Wraps℠ Program by collecting and donating hats, gloves, socks, scarves, coats, sweaters and other seasonal wraps for families in need; and (3) Fiscal Responsibility Programs will be initiated as members work with partner organizations and families to help increase their understanding of budgeting, basic financial planning and benefits of home ownership.

TARGET IV – ENVIRONMENTAL OWNERSHIP

Alpha Nu Omega will continue to implement and support programs that provide healthy environments and improve the quality of life in the underserved communities via: (1) The AKA 1908 Playground Project℠; (2) Restore, Refresh and Renew Project℠; and (3) Through the Acts of Green Program℠ members will promote environmental sustainability by encouraging recycling, litter prevention and waste management through daily green efforts in local communities.

TARGET V – GLOBAL IMPACT

 Alpha Nu Omega continues to support UNA-USA Global Classrooms Project to prepare today’s youth for an increasingly global and complex society– through a partnership with a Girls School in Uganda!  Additional, through the Africare partnership, Alpha Nu Omega chapter supports youth hunger initiatives on the continent of Africa.  Alpha Nu Omega also also supports the Mother of Peace Orphanage in Africa.
